WhatsApp verifies the number you type during setup. To keep your personal phone out of that flow, buy a WhatsApp number on SMS.Red and read the SMS in the dashboard.
Steps
- On SMS.Red, open Verifications or New rental and select WhatsApp.
- Pick a country. United States first.
- Purchase, copy the number, and enter it in WhatsApp.
- Wait for the SMS in Messages and type the code.
Why rentals matter here
Reinstalling WhatsApp, switching phones, or confirming a companion device all send another SMS to the original number. A 20-minute OTP is gone by then. Rent WhatsApp if this is a number you will keep.
WhatsApp sometimes rejects virtual ranges. If registration fails, change country or use a per-service rental. Do not use SMS.Red to hijack a WhatsApp account you do not own.
FAQ
Can I receive WhatsApp voice calls on the virtual number?
No. SMS.Red delivers inbound SMS. WhatsApp calling still needs a device that can take the call if the app asks for one.
