Google SMS verification with a virtual number
·SMS.Red
Google sends a verification SMS when you add a phone to an account or use SMS as a 2-Step Verification method. Buy a Google number on SMS.Red, enter it in the Google prompt, and read the code in Messages.
One-time check vs 2-Step Verification
A one-time “verify this is you” prompt is an OTP job. If you enable SMS 2-Step Verification, Google will text that number again. That is a rental. Losing the number means losing the second factor.
- Select Google on Verifications or New rental.
- Use a US number unless Google rejects it.
- Paste the number into the Google phone field.
- Copy the code from SMS.Red Messages.
Google Workspace and some consumer accounts reject virtual prefixes. If the SMS never comes, do not keep buying the same country — change prefix or use a number Google already trusts for that account.
FAQ
Is a virtual number enough for a Google account recovery phone?
Only if you keep renting it. An expired OTP cannot recover the account later.
