When a US number is the right default

OTP or rental on a US line
Use Verifications for one code. Use New rental if you need the same +1 later. Unlimited Rental is the generic US pool. Per-service US rentals exist for apps Quackr lists, with TextVerified as the fallback for apps that pool does not carry.

Can I call out from a US virtual number on SMS.Red?
No. These products are inbound SMS. They are not a US calling plan.
Will US banks accept it?
Often no. Consumer apps usually will. If a bank or brokerage rejects the number, use a number those institutions already know.
