How to choose a country for SMS verification
·SMS.Red
Choose the country whose prefix the target app will accept and whose route actually delivers. On SMS.Red, start with the United States unless the app itself is locked to a local number (a regional wallet, a domestic carrier portal).
Why US is the default
Most global consumer apps treat +1 as a normal mobile. Stock and pricing for US rentals and OTPs are also the deepest on SMS.Red, so you waste less time on empty catalogs.
When to pick another country
- The app says the number is invalid or “use a mobile from this country.”
- The first SMS never arrives after a resend.
- You are verifying a service that is sold only in one market.
Do not pick a country because it is cheaper if the app will reject it. A failed OTP still costs time; a cheap prefix that never delivers is not a saving.
FAQ
Does the country have to match where I live?
No. The app is checking that a number can receive SMS, not that you are standing in that country.
